“Why Europe Won’t Fight”

Pat Buchanan is proving his douchebaggery like a champ.  The man who is largely credited with the culture wars explained in his commentary on World Net Daily why Europe won’t fight with us in Afghanistan.  In a history laden rhetorical foray into the deep crevasse of his self-interested ass, Buchanan offers gems like these:

Finally, NATO Europe knows there is no price to pay for malingering in NATO’s war in Afghanistan. Europeans know America will take up the slack and do nothing about their refusal to send combat brigades.

For Europeans had us figured out a long time ago.

They sense that we need them more than they need us.

While NATO provides Europe with a security blanket, it provides America with what she cannot live without: a mission, a cause, a meaning to life.

Didn’t you know that America’s “meaning to life” is to fight?  Basically our only drive is militarist.  If it weren’t?  Buchanan illuminates that too:

…We can’t give up NATO because, if we do, we would no longer be the “indispensable nation,” the leader of the Free World.

And, if we’re not that, then who are we? And what would we do?

Apparently, Buchanan sees such an identity crisis for America if we weren’t belligerent that we might not be able to make meaning.  I guess the culture wars weren’t good enough.
